An ideal spot to relax and enjoy beautiful sunsets on your own beach, with a big shaded area(5 acres) of coconut trees and fruit trees, away from other touristy locations. Walking distance to Reserva Natural Padre Ramos where Pacific ocean meets a gorgeous lagoon. You can explore the reserve on your own or with local guides, or you can rent a dugout canoe. Walking distance in the other direction to quaint fishing village and small restaurants. Excellent surfing, swimming and fishing right behind house or enjoy a good book in a hammock under the trees. Close to Cosiguina volcano for hiking. The volcano is one of Central America's tallest volcano. It takes about three hours o climb for spectacular views over Honduras an El Salvador. It will be a unique experience of a lifetime. Keywords: bungalo

Summary: Overall our stay was okay. The house was basic. We stayed for month. It took us awhile to get accustomed to the area and what could be found there. We are a couple in our fifties and this was our first experience in Central America. It would have been nice to have been given a detailed info/welcome package on the house and the area. We would have then been prepared for gecko poop and scorpions! We made breakfasts and lunches at the house but found it difficult to cook many dinners besides pasta/rice there. It was just too hot to cook in the kitchen and it would take awhile for the little gas burners to cook anything. We soon learned to eat dinners in the local restaurants and hostels for very little money. The bed was comfortable enough and we really enjoyed the hammocks. The plus of the property is the location to the beach and the peacefulness of the property. We enjoyed fresh coconuts and coconut water most days but we were a little disappointed as we thought the property was filled with "fruit trees." Lots of coconuts yes, but we envisioned mangos, avocados etc. when the property was described as having fruit trees. Would we come back? Maybe. The beach is incredible and for very little money you can rent a surfboard and go out surfing right in front of the house. Surfing is good for beginners. Fishing with local fishermen was fun but did not catch a lot of fish. The mangrove kayak tour was very enjoyable. We also arranged a trip with a local young man up the Cosigüina Volcano. It was a pleasure to get to know some of the local families. If we were to return to this area, we would again rent this house. We met other people renting a couple of other properties and they had bat/cleanliness issues.

Summary: Jiquilillo is a beautiful area for the beach and surfing. Our property manager, Azqel, was very attentive to our needs. He was an asset we can never thank enough. Listen to his words of caution. The house is basic, but well equiped. The community works well together.

Summary: My family and I spent a week at Cheryl's place and we loved it! The house is great, well equipped and cozy. What you see in the pics is what you'll get! Cheryl was always available to answer all of our (multiple!) concerns. Special mention goes to the caretakers, Azrael and Ester (and the young toddler, Derek) who were absolutely wonderful. If you're looking for good surfing waves, KMs of empty beaches, nature and great local people, this is the place you'd like to visit. If you want to hit a Starbucks everyday, then, you should go to Costa Rica :)
Thanks Cheryl for giving us the opportunity to spend an amazing week at your dream house!

Summary: We enjoyed the property for two months during the rainy season of September and October. The rainstorms were short bursts which occurred mostly at night. Our small children ages 4 and 6 loved playing at the beach about 100 yards from the front door. The palm grove outside the house was also a nice shaded area. Mosquitos were a problem for our young children. We used repellent and bug nets during the night. This property classifies as adventure tourism. Expect power outages, an hour drive to a commercial area (Chinadega), and interaction with mother nature. The inconveniences were well worth the pleasant memories created for our family. We speak Spanish and enjoyed the many experiences of swimming, bogie boarding, canoeing, fishing, turtle preservation, Spanish study, and local friendships. We were able to do most of our food shopping locally. It took some effort to find out which house/truck sells what and when. I recommend the "water truck." It would fill our 5 gallon bottle for 10 Cordobas. We drank this water for two months without any illness. This home appeared to be one of the nicest rental/hotel along the Peninsula. We were cozy and dry during all weather with the benefits of a nice kitchen. It was situated on high ground closer to Padre Ramos. Other similar properties, closer to Jiquilillo, were flooded ankle deep with rain water. Many of the hostels closed for a few weeks to pump out flood water. We enjoyed the comforts of our 4x4 truck to make day trips. We also used the chicken bus on occasion. This area of the world is unique. We love the community and plan to return.

Summary: My Girl friend and I stayed here for 7 days in February 2014. It has been 2 months since we returned home, and I wish I was still in Jiquilillo. I read all the other reviews on this rental, and they are all spot on. The location, the grounds, the facilities are all top notch. We wanted to rent a house on the beach away from major tourist activity, buy local seafood, cook most of our meals, buy cold beer, and learn to surf. This turned out to be the perfect place. I could write a lot of praise for Tropicalia (the name of this property) I will keep it short. We checked out a few other places in the area, they were nice, but when I return it will be to Tropicalia. Nicaragua is getting discovered. If you like adventure see it now before it gets over developed. If you are lucky the owner will be at Tropicalia. He is great guy, and very helpful. I have recommended this rental to all my traveling friends since we returned home.
P.S. Rugero please come visit us here in Idaho !

Summary: My husband and I stayed for a week in this basic rustic home and enjoyed ourselves very much. The beach is one of the best we visited while in the country for 3 weeks, we love taking long walks on the beach and this beach seems to go on forever. The waves are ideal for body surfing and mild enough to take a long swim. The fisherman bring in their catch and sell a fried fish meal for about $2 right there on the beach. It doesn't get any fresher than that! There are several hostels in the area that provide basic healthy meals also very inexpensive. During the heat of the day the front yard, which is a coconut grove, provides plenty of shade to take your siesta in a hammock. This is a very safe area, the house is very secure and there is a couple living on the property who are very helpful and can answer most of your questions. I highly recommend staying here if you are wanting to get off the beaten path, stay in an authentic Nicaraguan village and enjoy the art of relaxing.

Summary: If you're looking for an authentic Nicaraguan experience, go now before the rest of the world discovers this beautiful part of the country. The beaches are endless and you can walk forever and not meet another soul.
The property here is spotless, with the numerous coconut trees providing shade during the
heat of the day. The house is very rustic with basic amenities. There are local buses but to really enjoy the countryside a vehicle is recommended. If you're looking for a five star resort, this isn't the place for you. But, if you're looking for a place where there are no malls or high-rises and as far as you can see there is only the blue of the sky and the sea, this is it! The food is simple and inexpensive, the people are friendly, and the host, if he's around, is a wealth of information. This area is still an undiscovered gem.

Summary: We stayed in this property for six weeks and used it as a base for other travels in Nicaragua. The house was perfect for two adults, although you could definitely put a couple more folks in there. We swam and body-boarded daily, walked the beach, did a kayak and a local boat tour on the estuary, ate fresh fish and relaxed in the hammocks. The property is beautiful and well maintained with lots of fruit trees and bird life. If you are looking for a quiet, out of the way spot to kick back and relax this is the place for it.
We would take the local bus into town weekly to pick up supplies we couldn't at the beach or we would take off for a couple of days to see other areas of the country.
Loved it!

Summary: I have traveled extensively in Central America and after only a week in Jiquilillo it has quickly become my favorite place. The village is picture perfect, quiet, remote and features incredible benefits. Freshly caught fish, shellfish and delicious fresh fruits and vegetables are all purchasable at an unbeatable price and only as far away as a beautiful walk down a very quiet beach. Sunsets are gorgeous, the locals are friendly and helpful, the ocean is warm with good surf, the weather is perfect and beautiful tropical birds fill the coconut trees around the very cute and comfortable cabana. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
